What does cosmetic product contain?

What does cosmetic product contain?
  • Are you having trouble deciphering the label of your favourite shower gel or toothpaste? Use the app that explains the functions of cosmetic product ingredients.
  • Kosmopedia.org is a simple and free tool that can be downloaded to your phone to help you make informed purchasing decisions.
  • The president of UOKiK continuously monitors the market and checks the labelling of cosmetics – the results of the latest check will be available in a few days.

The safety and quality of non-food products is supervised by the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection and its subordinate Trade Inspection. We check whether the products on the market are well-labelled, whether their labels are misleading in any way, whether they cause any harm to health, and whether they are marketed legally. It is particularly important for products that come into direct contact with skin, hair and nails to be safe for health. Our report on cosmetic controls will be published shortly, but even before that, you are encouraged to check the labels on your skincare products and make an informed choice.

Analyse cosmetic ingredients

Why are there antioxidants in my cream? Could canola oil make me allergic? Check the ingredients of your favourite cosmetics and verify their functions. Use an online search engine for this or use the @kosmopediaorg app, which the President of UOKiK has patronised. You can download it for free via the App Store, Google Play and AppGallery. A scan of a product's composition will provide information on what active or main ingredients it has, which ones protect it from spoilage and which ones give it a fragrance. You will see what their origin is – natural or synthetic. In addition, you can easily exclude ingredients in your skincare that make you allergic and save your favourite compositions.

REMEMBER! The list of cosmetic ingredients (so-called INCI) sometimes changes. Manufacturers adapt the ingredients of their preparations to changes in legislation and scientific and technological progress or simply improve their properties. It is therefore worth analysing the composition of your favourite cream from time to time to see if it meets your expectations.
