UOKiK for teachers - konsument.edu.pl portal
< previous | next > 15.10.2021

- Are you a school teacher? Do you teach classes for adolescents? Perhaps you are a parent? Use the free, state-of-the-art educational tool konsument.edu.pl.
- It is a social network simulator where we can show you in a safe way what tricks scammers use.
- Phishing, "this is not a scam", dropshipping or alternative investments – if you are in the dark about these topics, this portal is for you!
Have you bought something from an online store, paid and never received the product? You got caught in a trap. Your funds have probably already ended up in the account of a bogus store or in the currency wallet of an unknown scammer. In such a situation, it is useful to know how to recover the money and, for the future, how to avoid such troubles.
"Be careful, offers that are too good are usually not true. Before you enter your information and pay, carefully check the seller and the terms of the contract. In cooperation with the ProPublika Foundation, we have prepared a tool for developing safe consumer behaviours and habits on the Internet – the konsument.edu.pl portal. The simulator shows us what tricks scammers or dishonest sellers use, we go through purchase procedures, talk to a chatbot and learn the consequences of our actions. And all this happens in a safe space, as we get caught in all sorts of traps merely in a fictional world," explains Tomasz Chróstny, President of UOKiK. Each "trap" ends with a summary: advice on what and how to check before using the offer, as well as information concerning where to find help.
Konsument.edu.pl is a modern, free educational tool that shows the mechanisms of many scams, from shopping scams to identity fraud, blik code scams, fake charity collections or investments in alternative financial instruments. It is a website resembling social networking site with "traps" in the midst of regular posts. In addition, the konsument.edu.pl portal was created with educators in mind -it contains a special menu with 10 lesson scenarios. Classes that can be conducted using the simulator fit into the core curriculum of secondary schools, but also the higher grades of primary school. This innovative tool can realistically support adolescents in learning but it is not just for them.
"Materials for teachers have been especially carefully and meticulously prepared. I think that by educating our youth, we will also educate their parents and other adults, because, to be honest, I have found a lot of useful information on this site myself. I highly recommend working on this platform," says Jolanta Okuniewska, a teacher from Primary School No. 13 in Olsztyn.
The portal is completely non-commercial and available to all web users."I encourage you to try learning through play on konsument.edu.pl and to use this tool to educate young people," adds Tomasz Chróstny, President of UOKiK.
