DVB-T2 - new standard of digital terrestrial television from 1 July 2022
< previous | next > 15.10.2021
- Next year, viewers will benefit from the second generation of terrestrial television - DVB-T2.
- The President of UOKiK has joined the information campaign organised by the National Institute of Telecommunications - #GotowiNaDVBT2.
- We suggest how to prepare for the new quality of television.
From 1 July 2022, terrestrial TV viewers will benefit from a new broadcasting standard - DVB-T2/HEVC. The system will be implemented in stages throughout Poland, by province. After 30 June 2022, TV reception will only be possible in the DVB-T2 system.
The new system provides new opportunities and benefits for consumers. Viewers will gain higher picture and sound quality and a wider choice of channels. However, the continued use of terrestrial TV may require adaptation of the TV set or replacement with a new one. The receiver must have the appropriate functions. Most TV sets manufactured in recent years are dual-system ones, i.e. they can receive the current DVB-T system as well as the new DVB-T2 system. A TV that complies with the DVB-T2 standards may require a change in settings. If you are in doubt as to whether your television set complies with the new standards, please check its parameters in the operating manual, in an Internet search engine, or contact the manufacturer. If your TV set is not DVB-T2 compliant, you will need to purchase a special "set-top-box", a tuner that is compliant with the new standards.
The upcoming change in the way terrestrial television is broadcast is a major technological leap of a global nature. In the interests of consumer access to reliable information, I have decided to join the campaign of the National Institute of Telecommunications aimed to promote the new digital terrestrial television. The changes in the transmission of television signals will begin next year. Consumers should prepare themselves for the coming changes - it is worthwhile to check the model of the TV set in terms of compliance with DVB-T2 system standards. Let's not forget about seniors who may need the support of their loved ones in this regard - says the UOKiK President Tomasz Chróstny.
When buying new equipment, ask the seller if the TV set:
- receives terrestrial TV in the DVB-T2 standard
- decodes DVB-T2 signals with HEVC (H.265/MPEG-H)
- receives MPEG-2 Audio Layer 2 and Dolby E-AC-3 audio coding
If the receiver provides an Internet connection, it should support at least the HbbTV standard version 2.0.1.
Consumer, if you care about ultra-high definition 4K, then the equipment should also:
- receive HEVC HDR in versions HLG10 and PQ10
- receive Dolby AC-4 audio
You can find all the information about DVB-T2 on the cyfrowa TV website.
