Volkswagen case - UOKiK opens preliminary proceeding

The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has opened preliminary proceedings into Volkswagen’s use of gauges that misrepresent exhaust fume levels in some of it cars. The Office called upon the company to submit information needed to establish whether there is a basis for charges of infringing the collective consumer interests. It will also analyse the corrective measures the Volkswagen Group has taken since revelations of the gauges emerged. During the proceedings, UOKiK will work closely with the Transportation Technical Supervision and the General Inspectorate of Environmental Protection.

Under review by various institutions, Volkswagen’s actions may have violated collective consumer interests, environmental and technical standards. Volkswagen Group Poland has confirmed that roughly 140,000 vehicles equipped with the gauges have been introduced on the Polish market.
