President of uokik appointed as a member of the High-Level Group on the Digital Market Act
  • President of UOKiK Tomasz Chróstny has been appointed as a member of the High Level Group on the Digital Market Act.
  • The group will render advise to the European Commission on matters related to newly introduced legislation on the largest technological and online business entities.

The High Level Group has been established under the Digital Market Act (DMA). The aim of the Group is to render support to the European Commission with advice, recommendations and expertise on the application of DMA provisions and ensuring regulatory cohesion.

On 23 March 2023 the European Commission issued an official decision to set up a High Level Group on the Digital Market Act. On behalf of the European Competition Network, the Group consisted of six heads of competition protection authorities from EU countries who will be members of the High Level Group for two years. These include President of UOKiK Tomasz Chróstny as well as heads of anti-monopoly offices from Germany, Spain, Greece, Denmark, and Austria.

- The Appointment to the High Level Group on Digital Market Act is an appreciation by the European Commission of the activities carried out by UOKiK and our expertise and professionalism. It also confirms excellent cooperation and trust between the Office and the Commission - says President of UOKiK Tomasz Chróstny.

The Digital Market Act is a comprehensive regulation of digital services, including social media and online commercial platforms, provided in the European Union. This is a response to the intense changes in the world related to the technological revolution, development of the so-called Big Techs and the concerns about their strength.

DMA entered into force on 1 November 2022 and its provisions will be directly applicable in the Member States from 2 May 2023. The Act will apply to entrepreneurs who will be recognised as gatekeepers. These will be the largest actors in the technological and Internet industry operating in the European Union.
