Bilateral meeting with the President of the Hellenic Competition Commission

President Tomasz Chróstny met today with Ioannis Lianos, President of the Hellenic Competition Commission (HCC), who visited the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection at the invitation of the President of UOKiK. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss current issues in the area of competition policy, such as competition in the labour market, actions taken in the fuel market in connection with the crisis and the implementation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The topic of integrating sustainability into competition policy was also raised, in the context of the HCC's launch of the Sustainability Sandbox last year. The creation by the HCC of a supervised space for experimentation for the promotion of innovative business initiatives in favour of sustainable development, inevitably includes the concept of introducing into the Greek market commercial logics and actions that had not previously been the subject of  competition law. It also introduces the culture of promoting innovative business proposals and solutions, with a clear view to promote competition for sustainable development.

The heads of the two authorities also discussed further cooperation between UOKiK and HCC within the framework of the twinning project in Morocco.

Ioannis Lianos has been Chairman of the Hellenic Competition Commission since September 2019. He is Professor, Chair of Global Competition Law and Public Policy and founding Director of the Centre for Law, Economics and Society at the Faculty of Laws, University College London. He has published extensively books and articles in various languages and leading academic journals.
