- Tomasz Chróstny took part in the 21st Conference of the International Competition Network 4-6 May in Berlin.
- During the event UOKiK’s President met with the head of Ukrainian competition authority to discuss the support project for AMCU.
Only recently we celebrated the 20th edition of the ICN Annual Conference in Budapest, and today we can review the newest conference in Berlin organized by the Bundeskartellamt. This year, its organizers reverted to the event's historic structure, allowing representatives of antitrust authorities and competition specialists to physically participate in this important event.
Discussions at the Berlin conference focused on the most current topics for the competition community, including priorities and new trends looking beyond the pandemic in anti-cartel enforcement in the next decade, tools competition agencies use to better understand markets affected by the pandemic, regulatory and competition law tools in digital markets, gathering and using information for effective strategic planning and competition law enforcement at the intersection between competition, consumer protection, and privacy.
The Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) was represented by Mr. Tomasz Chróstny, President of UOKiK, Ms. Martyna Derszniak-Noirjean, Director of the International Cooperation Office of UOKiK, and Mr. Mateusz Błachucki, Advisor from the Concentration Control Department.
During the conference, the President of UOKiK met with European and worldwide heads of national competition authorities, among others, the Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition of the Republic of Armenia – Mr. Gegham Gevoryan, the President of the Moroccan Conseil de la Concurrence – Mr. Ahmed Rahhou, the President of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense – Mr. Alexandre Cordeiro Macedo, and the Chairman of the Georgian National Competition Agency – Mr. Irakli Lekvinadze.
Moreover, Mr. Tomasz Chróstny met with Ms. Olha Pishchanska – President of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) and discussed the progress on the current AMCU support project. Given the current situation in Ukraine, UOKiK has committed to providing particularly relevant expertise for its Ukrainian counterpart to mitigate the negative effects of the war on the markets and competition in Ukraine as well as to support resilience and rebuilding of its economy.
