< previous | next > 08.10.2021
- A nationwide social campaign of the President of UOKiK under the slogan "Calculate and don't miscalculate!" is underway.
- So far, nearly 180 media and institutions have joined the campaign.
- We would like to thank you for your support and encourage you to continue getting involved in the campaign.
Investing requires well-thought-out decisions and a thorough analysis of one's own situation and the market situation. As a part of the campaign "Calculate and don't miscalculate!",the President of UOKiK draws the public's attention to the risk of losing savings and the need to be prudent while making investment decisions.
- As part of the campaign "Calculate and don't miscalculate!", I encourage you to stay wise and responsible when investing your savings. Making long-term investments requires considering all possible options. One needs to be aware that the only certain thing with regards to investments is risk. In the prepared announcements, the Office provides information about, i.a., the ways to reduce investment risks and what to pay attention to in order not to get overexposed. I recommend making wise and careful decisions regarding the disposal of your capital - advises Tomasz Chróstny, the President of UOKiK.
As part of the campaign, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection:
- created two 30-second spots which are broadcast on television and radio, warning of the real loss of invested funds and the possible inability to repay the loan,
- created a calculator with the use of which it is possible to check how much, approximately, the loan installment will increase in the case the interest rates go up,
- organized a webinar with experts about investing, buying real estate on credit and the risks associated with the currently low interest rates,
- published a series of educational announcements related to, i.a., mortgages, investment funds, investing in commercial real estate, shares or bonds.
To reach as many consumers as possible, the President of UOKiK has asked the media and institutions to join the campaign. As a result, the spots and campaign materials were broadcast and published by 177 media, institutions and enterprises. Thanks to the synergy of various activities and the involvement of so many entities, it was possible to reach a wide range of consumers with the messages.
- The Office has started cooperation with many different media, institutions and businesses. Great thanks to everyone who agreed to share the materials prepared by the Office on non-commercial terms. Your involvement and sharing the spots and the materials is much appreciated - says Tomasz Chróstny.
The campaign of the President of UOKiK is underway and the Office encourages media, institutions and non-governmental organisations to get involved. The more information channels are available, the greater impact on consumer safety is possible to be achieved. - I strongly encourage entities to continue getting involved in the "Calculate and don’t miscalculate!" campaign. Together, we are able to reach even more consumers - to warn them, explain and prevent financial losses. I am convinced that thanks to the synergy of actions the awareness of consumers and their safety are increased - says Tomasz Chróstny.

Remember! Before making any decision - calculate and don’t miscalculate!
- Never make rash decisions and never act on emotions – carefully analyse all potential profits and risks.
- Do not opt for investments when you are in debt. If you have any excess money, repaying your financial obligations early may be a better choice.
- Invest wisely based on your financial possibilities, using only surplus money you can afford to lose and not the money you need to secure your livelihood.
- Not only should you analyse the current situation but you should also plan for the future, particularly to account for possible issues that may result in reduced income.
- Diversify your finances – avoid investing everything in a single property or business; always keep in mind the need to stay solvent.
- Remember, it is you who manages your finances and you alone will bear all the consequences of ill-considered decisions – never make decisions under the influence of impulse, emotions, "here and now".
