More dangerous products being reported in Poland

134 voluntary reports of dangerous products were made to Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) in 2015, and another 73 came in in the first half of 2016.

Most of the reports (114) concerned automobiles, toys and other products for children (5) and electrical equipment (5). The 134 notifications UOKiK received in 2015 was 16% more than it received in 2014.

When consumers or retailers inform a company that its product is unsafe, it is legally required to notify UOKiK and begin to counteract the effects of the danger by informing consumers. For non-compliance, UOKiK may fine the enterprise up to 100,000 PLN (ca. 23,000 EUR). Specific corrective measures may include removing the danger by means of repairing or replacing the product, or attaching an appropriate warning or instructions on the product. Should those steps fail to address the danger, the product may need to be recalled from the market and destroyed.
