Poland's UOKiK approves eight concentrations

Poland’s Competition Authority (UOKiK) has recently approved takeovers on a range of markets, including insurance, energy, debt trading, dairy production and fish processing.

The first decision gives the LC Corp the go ahead to acquire the Open Life TUŻ, a life insurance company. Both life insurers operate nationally in Poland.

On the energy market, PGNiG Termika received the green light to take over Jastrzębie Energy Company. The companies engage primarily in the production of electricity and heat.

Another two decisions pave the way for takeovers by private equity funds belonging to the Abris Group, which invests in medium-sized companies in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The first deal will see SCRM Holdings acquire the company Industrial Division, which operates in the European rolling stock lease market. In the second, Emest Investments will assume control of GetBack. Both companies are involved in claims trading.

UOKiK has also approved three transactions among dairy cooperatives. The Mlekpol Dairy Cooperative is to merge with the Sudowia Dairy Cooperative while Sierpc will merge with fellow cooperative Żuromin. As a result of the mergers, two companies will remain on the market: SM Mlekpol and OSM Sierpc. The third decision gives the Mlevovita Dairy Cooperative the go ahead to acquire some of the assets of the dairy company in Łaszczów.

Finally, Lisner will move ahead with its acquisition of fellow fish processor and merchant Nordfish-Foodmark. During its proceedings in the case, the Office conducted a market study and solicited the opinions of the companies’ largest customers.
