Poland's UOKiK approves concentration on electricity market
< previous | next > 09.06.2016
Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has approved a joint venture by five electricity distributors. Among its other benefits, the transaction will enable consumers to change providers more quickly and easily.
The participating companies include Enea Operator, Energa Operator, PGE Dystrybucja, RWE Stoen Operator, Tauron Dystrybucja. The joint venture will be responsible for maintaining, operating and developing the Central Information Exchange System — a national platform that will host operators of the electric energy distribution system, sellers and entities responsible for balancing trade.
According to the companies, the concentration will enable them to standardise information exchange among market participants. The Energy Regulatory Office supports the creation of a single, unified platform.
UOKiK’s proceedings for the case showed that the concentration will not limit competition, and will be a boon to consumers: thanks to the faster and more complete access available to information about energy consumption, it will be easier to change providers. The platform will also allow for more efficient handling of complaints.
