1&1 Internet can acquire home.pl
< previous | next > 30.12.2015
Following an investigation and additional market research, UOKiK has approved 1&1 Internet to take over home.pl, ruling that the transaction will not limit competition.
Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has approved 1&1 Internet to acquire home.pl. Both companies offer cloud services, including hosting, registering and maintaining web pages. During UOKiK’s investigation, some on the market expressed reservations to the Authority about the influence the takeover would have on competition. Because there was also a lack of available and reliable data on the provision of cloud services, UOKiK opted to extend its proceeding by four months to thoroughly analyse the market. In so doing, it directed questions to more than 30 entities, including the Research and Academic Computer Network (NASK), which expressed the opinion that the transaction did not pose a threat to competition.
The analysis showed that the takeover would most impact the domestic registration and domain and hosting services markets, though not to the extent that competition would be affected on any of them, or that their structure would be significantly changed. Home.pl’s current position will account for the market share of the combined company. Following the transaction, 1&1 Internet will continue to face competition from other companies.
