Competition Authority clears PZU's acquisition of Alior Bank

Poland’s competition Authority clears the acquisition of Alior Bank by PZU, leading insurance company in Poland. The Authority’s proceedings, which followed PZU’s application to receive the go-ahead for its taking control of Alior in June, 2015, found that the transaction will have no negative impact on the situation of consumers and competition.

In its analysis, the Authority took into account the impact of the transaction on the Polish open investment fund market and the funds’ management, the domestic life and property insurance market (including alternatively assumed markets of more specific products encompassing specific risk groups, such as transport insurance), as well as the domestic bancassurance market (insurance products distributed by banks). In the opinion of the Authority, PZU’s acquisition of Alior Bank will not restrict competition on any of the analysed markets.
