UOKiK clears merger on wind turbine market

Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has cleared the Industrial Development Agency (ARP), together with the Gdansk Shipyard Group, to take over GSG Towers. The Industrial Development Agency is a State Treasury company that supports the restructuring and development of Polish enterprises while the GSG Towers company manufactures and sells wind turbine towers and steel structures.

UOKiK’s analysis determined that H. Cegielski – Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych in Poznań, a subsidiary of the Industrial Development Agency, has a significant share in the passenger railway carriages market. However, UOKiK believes ARP’s strength in that market will not transfer to the steel structure manufacturing market in which the merger participants operate, because the markets serve completely separate customer groups.
