Alior Bank and Meritum Bank Granted concentration clearance
< previous | next > 17.12.2014
A proceeding carried out by Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (the UOKiK) has cleared Alior Bank to take over Meritum on grounds the concentration will not negatively affect competition. The application to clear the acquisition of Meritum Bank by Alior Bank was filed with the UOKiK on 31 December 2014. Alior offers services to retail and corporate clients as well as central and local government institutions. Meritum sells its products and services primarily to individual customers, self-employed individuals and micro and small enterprises.
Having analysed the situation on the markets both banks operate in, the UOKiK President ruled that the banks’ combined shares and Alior’s resulting improved position will not be high enough for the transaction to restrict competition on any of the markets, paving the way for concentration approval.
