< previous | next > 22.10.2013
Educational materials, lesson scenarios, a discussion forum and inter-school consumer education projects – all available at www.consumerclassroom.eu
The Consumer Classroom website is the newest initiative of the Directorate General of Health and Consumers of the European Commission. The website is targeted at teachers of students aged 12-18 tackling consumer issues as part of various subjects, e.g. Business, Mathematics, Social Studies or Science. It contains ready-to-use teaching aids which enable knowledge on consumer rights to be delivered to students, as well as practical skills handy in daily use of the market.
Having registered in the www.consumerclassroom.eu website, you can use a library of resources in all EU language versions, organised by subject matter and age category. Financial Literacy, Social Media, Internet Safety, Advertising, Consumer Rights are only some of the themes available. In addition, the website offers the possibility to create your own interactive lessons and share them with students in a virtual classroom. A forum is available, through which contacts can be maintained with teachers all over Europe as well as collaboration in inter-school projects and competitions.
The Office has become a partner of the Consumer Classroom project, appreciating its significance in the process of educating students and teachers in consumer knowledge. Teachers are encouraged to actively use the website and share experiences with other teachers. This opportunity has already been taken by about 8,000 Polish teachers, and in the whole of Europe the service has more than 80,000 users.
UOKiK embarks on many educational and information initiatives targeted at consumers, including the youngest ones and their guardians. One example of such activities was the My consumer ABC launched by the Office and the associated website for young consumers www.konsumenckieabc.pl. The Office also engages in initiatives promoting consumer awareness among children and youth, such as Greater Poland Consumer Knowledge Contest.
