Netia takes over Tele2

The President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection cleared the takeover of Tele2 by Netia. The companies operate on the telecommunications market

Netia is an independent operator of fixed-line telephony. It also provides other telecommunications services such as: Internet access, telephone voice services and data transmission, e.g. online cinema. The target enterprise - Tele2 Polska - also offers fixed-line telephony and the access to the Internet.

The takeover will consists in the buyout of Tele2’s whole stock by Netia from the current owner - a Swedish company Tele2 AB.

Having conducted antitrust proceedings, the President of the Office found that the transaction is not going to contribute to significant lessening of competition, especially by creating or strengthening a dominant position on the market.

Under the existing regulations, a transaction is subject to notification to UOKiK if it involves enterprises whose total turnover in the preceding year exceeded EUR 1 billion globally or EUR 50 million in Poland.
